Church Planting

Church Planting

We work among the Watchi tribe, who for the most part are entrenched  in idol worship and satanic rituals, along with around 20% of their population also following Islam.  Only 5% of this population are evangelical Christians, who truly follow Christ and share the good news with others.  In Togo Christian Mission we focus on Disciple Making.  The Lord is healing the brokenness of the Togolese through Discipleship.  We run a Christian School, Medical Outreach, and Community Development.  These are all interconnected working together pointing back to our focus which is Making Disciples who make Disciples that will result in multiplying Simple Churches.  (Churches that focus on three main things:  Love God, Love others and Make Disciples).

When we enter into the new village we have already been praying that God would lead us to a person of peace, a person who would be willing to open their home for us to come and share the gospel.  Sometimes God even puts a person of peace in our path before we enter the village and they can invite us to their home.  When we meet this person, we ask them if they would be willing for us to come and have some spiritual conversations with them.  As most people in Togo are very spiritual (but not Christian) they typically are open to this.  They invite us in.  By going out to where they are in their homes, they do not feel as pressured by fear as they would be to enter into a Church building.

Once we start meeting in their home, we start “storying” the gospel with them.  What this means is that we take the Bible and put the scripture into words that they can easily understand and learn.  We do not change the content, but we put it into their own dialect so that they can learn and then retell to others.  After we tell the story they repeat it back to us several times until everyone can retell it without mistakes.  Then we ask them questions such as “What did you find Challenging about this story?”  or “What did you find interesting about this story?” or “How will you obey this story?” and “Who will you share this story with this week?”.  We have accountability by each person mentioning the name(s) of who they will share the story with and then follow up in our next meeting on how it went when they shared.  The people who meet in these groups take small steps of obedience in walking with Christ, even sharing the gospel story with their friends and family.  As more people join the meeting others are being challenged and disciple as well.  Eventually when they are baptized and committed believers they become a Church there.  We are to Love God, Love others and Make Disciples. These are the Simple Churches we believe God want us to reproduce.
